Lindvall Design Studio was inspired by carrot juice. Not just any carrot juice, but the carrot juice produced by my great grandmother Myrtle Lindvall. In a time where opportunities for women were few and far between, she took it upon herself to start a business making carrot juice.

One industrial juicer and hundreds of carrots later she had set up shop in the basement of her small home in Walla Walla, Washington.

 

She bottled, packaged, and hit the neighborhood on feet to sell her juice. In the words of my mother, "I'm not sure if people liked the carrot juice as much as they liked talking to her."

Not too long later my great grandmother had a route of people in the neighborhood she would stop, chat with, and deliver juice to.

Her spirit of going forth and making when all odds are against you because you love it. Small scale production with care and quality, and connection to the community are the founding principals of what my great grandmother accomplished. It is those same principals that are carried over generations to Lindvall Design Studio.
